A few plain rules for using meaning.today. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use it.
What the site is
meaning.today is a small, independently run website that explains words in plain English. Its content is for general information and curiosity. It is not professional, legal, medical or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for an authoritative dictionary where exact wording matters.
Accuracy
We write entries in our own words, cite the sources we checked and say when an origin is uncertain. Even so, language is slippery and we make mistakes. The content is provided “as is”, without any promise that it is complete, current or error-free. If you spot an error, please tell us at hi@meaning.today; corrections are dated on the entry they change.
Using the content
- You are welcome to read the site, link to any page and share it.
- You may quote short excerpts if you credit meaning.today and link back.
- Please do not copy entries wholesale, republish the site, or present our writing as your own.
- Unless noted otherwise, the text, design and graphics belong to meaning.today. Material quoted from other sources, and the sources’ own content, stays under its own licence. Names of games, publications and brands belong to their owners, and we are not affiliated with them.
Fair use of the site
Do not attack or overload the site, try to break or bypass its security, or use automated tools in a way that harms its availability for others. Ordinary search-engine crawling and feed readers are fine.
Links and availability
Pages link to other websites, such as Wikipedia and Wiktionary. We do not control them and are not responsible for what they say or do. We may change, move or remove content at any time, and the site may sometimes be unavailable.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss arising from using the site or relying on its content. Nothing here limits any right you have that the law does not allow to be limited.
